Linton Quarry SSSI

Linton Quarry is a geological Site of Special Scientific Interest containing the most accessible and best documented Silurian rocks in this part of the world. The Silurian period is exposed here as a sequence of limestones, mudstones, stiltstones and sandstones. The local village gives its name to the Gorsley limestone in the Wenlock series deposited in the middle Silurian era. A pond now occupies the floor of the quarry.
