At the time of this photo the grange was in use as a hotel and had a contract with British Aerospace to provide accommodation for overseas students learning to fly at Carlisle Airport. The minibus used to ferry them can be seen on the left of the photo. Since the photo was taken, the dining rooms on the right have been removed and replaced with a simple conservatory. The grange is no longer marked as a hotel on the map so I presume that it has ceased to perform that function. See http://www.geog.port.ac.uk/webmap/thelakes/html/lgaz/lk08483.htm for a more recent photo.
