Torquay: Post Office Roundabout

This road junction gets its name from the fact that Image is just past the Tesco Express visible on the left, while its replacement, Image is just around the corner to the sharp right. It is not really a proper roundabout anymore, despite retaining the shape. We are looking down over the parapet that separates Madrepore Road (out of picture) and Pimlico (foreground), which run parallel but at different gradients onto the junction. Both are one-way streets in this direction. In addition, Union Street, which is restricted to delivery traffic and taxis, is also one-way heading into the roundabout, and we see it emerging from the right. Ahead of us, we see Fleet Street, pedestrianised apart from buses, and the only exit from the junction available to all vehicles is Abbey Road, out of sight to the right. Because the only exit is round there, the part of the roundabout on which traffic would be facing us is effectively redundant, and is therefore used as a taxi rank.
