The Alexander Armstrong Monument

This ivy-clad monument next to the entrance gates to Kirkconnel Parish Church is dedicated to Alexander Armstrong, a local poet who wrote under the name of “The Surfaceman”. He worked his way up from being a railway worker to Chief Librarian at Edinburgh University.
