Looking across the newly made cutting in The Warren woodland. Junction 9 to be is beyond the bare earth but out of sight. In the far distance can be seen the bridge carrying Canterbury Road over the motorway, with housing in Quantock Drive to its right. In those days I lived nearby in Sandyhurst Lane and was able to cycle along the line of the motorway as it was being built. They had security guards who told me I shouldn't be there as I might fall down a hole, but I told them that as I was 42 years old and hadn't fallen down a hole yet, I reckoned I'd cracked that problem.
