Main Street Portpatrick

Portpatrick was from the 1600s after the building of the military road, a main port for the short sea passage between Scotland and Ireland. In the 1860s due to the prevailing westerly winds limiting its usefulness and the need to service the route using bigger ships, most of the ferry trade transferred to Stranraer.
