There is a bit of history to this location. Allegedly a gibbet stood somewhere near here, and in 1785 a criminal called Cliffe was hung on the gibbet, and his remains were left there for 50 years until he was buried. One supposes that the locals were very law abiding for that period as obviously the gibbet was "taken".
