One of a number of such posts around the perimeter of the fort. The maker was Francis Morton of Liverpool, major Victorian engineers and manufacturers of iron and steel bridges, railways and prefabricated churches. In the distance the oil refinery at Waterston on the edge of the Haven, Scoveston lying only a mile or two inland.
