This disused pumping station was built in 1844; the upper plaque celebrates its centenary. The lower plaque celebrates its long-serving foreman engineer. It states, "This stone is placed by the Commissioners of Mildenhall Fen District as a Memorial to the long and faithful service of JOSEPH FLATT who had charge of this engine from the date of it's (sic) erection in 1844 to the day of his death on April 21 1900".
