The huge road sign indicates that traffic on the A45 is approaching the start of the M45. For many years after the M45 was built, the A45 continued through Dunchurch and on to Daventry; eventually a set of slip roads were built east of the village to allow traffic off the M45 back on to the A45, thus by-passing Dunchurch. The old A45 was then demoted to become the B4429.
