The security fencing of Alconbury airfield crosses the former road to Abbots Ripton as shown on a reprint of a 1926 Ordnance Survey map (Cassini Publishing Ltd) The Airfield was constructed in 1938 and a wikipedia history of the site is here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Alconbury
