Strong & Co of Romsey, Hampshire, was one of the largest breweries in the area. Originally founded in 1858, it was eventually absorbed by the Whitbread concern, who subsequently closed the brewery in 1979, and abandoned the Strong brand. During the 1930's to the 1960's Strong & Co placed adverts along many roads and railways promoting their brand under the "Strong Country" theme. This advert, by Alton Railway Station, is very typical of the series.
