Wolf's Lane turns off to the right, in this picture, and is now the northerly route out of Chawton. This was not always the case. Looking ahead, into what is now a no through road, is a continuation of Winchester Road. This was the original A31, and the route was severed by the construction of the Alton bypass, which bypassed Chawton too. I have many memories of passing this point, in the early to mid 1960's, on the way home from visiting my grandparents at Four Marks. We always passed just before dusk, and the ginger cat was always on the thatched roof!
