Car Park at West Itchenor

This is just about the only place you can park in West Itchenor, unless you frequent The Ship Inn. This car park is leased by Chichester Harbour Conservancy. It cost £3 for four hours at time of photographing. It was the subject of a controversial planning application in July 2009 by Haines Boatyard http://www.hainesboatyard.com/ which wanted to use the left half of this photo for boat storage and a 1000 sq.m. marine workshop building extending behind the camera. Haines Boatyard, originally a family business, has been owned since 1938 by shareholders all of whom must be members of Itchenor Sailing Club. It is proposed to keep the righthand half of this photo as a car park, and to extend the car park southwards (behind camera, see Image) into a farm field to make up the lost spaces. This proposal set members of the sailing club (pro) against local residents (con). The outcome is as yet undecided.
