The former premises of George Shaw & Partners Ltd on Market Street, is now the home of the Georgie Porgies Day Nursery. The business was established in 1880 and at this time George Shaw described his occupation as a Commission Agent. Eventually, he became a Hat Trimming Merchant and it is understood that the business expanded to become an importer of hatters' furs (beaver and rabbit), linings, galloons (decorative trimming, a narrow band of embroidery, lace, braid, or silver or gold thread used as a trimming in hats, on clothes or upholstery), et cetra. It is not known with certainty when this company ceased trading but it was mentioned in the Hatters' Gazette of January 1950. http://www.pittdixon.go-plus.net/denton/george-shaw.htm
