It's extraordinary to think now but this footpath follows the trackbed of the former Midland & South Western Junction Railway (M&SWJR) main line between Andover and Cheltenham via Swindon which was double-tracked. The line was closed in 1961, and dense scrub vegetation has colonized the low embankment that it ran on. This is actually a permissive footpath that follows the trackbed to Collingbourne Ducis.
