View from the steps connecting Saxe Coburg Place with 'the Colonies' at Stockbridge. This is the end of what was 'Gabriel's Road' which ran from Mutrie's (or Moultrie's) Hill (later covered by St. James Square and Register House) via the west side of the village of Broughton (along the line of present Albany Street) and the hamlet of Silvermills before the building of the New Town. After crossing a ford on the Water of Leith, a continuation of the path led to Inverleith House which now stands in the Royal Botanic Gardens. See also Image
