These signs indicate that a section of the road runs through a section the Irish Republic approximately a kilometre in length. The border takes an erratic line. The more important roads have welcome signs to let you know which country you are in. This road would have been blocked off in the height of the troubles and it was not welcomed by local farmers who would have had land on both sides. It would have been termed as an unapproved road.
