Glimpsed from the lane shown in Image As Cherry & Pevsner say, it seems quite a modest farmhouse for the "fine stone gatepiers" shown in Image, but, as the architectural details at http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/Details/Default.aspx?id=101131&mode=adv indicate, this is an important building, with the long range revealing a wealth of history.
