There has been a pond here for hundreds of years. In the 1670s Thomas Stonor, who owned nearby Blount's Court, had it cleaned out. Several oak trees up to 60ft long were found submerged in the water, and much of the blackened timber was sound (Source of this information - http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~hadland/tvp/tvp17.htm ).
