Interesting gravestone. Major General John Innes Robinson served with the Bengal Cavalry from 1849-1889, having survived battles of the Indian Mutiny including that at Lucknow in 1857. His father was Vicar of St Peters in Dyrham Park, Gloucester. On his retirement Major Robinson came to live at Hill, Ludchurch, with his wife Bertha and daughter Gertrude. He died in 1891 aged 58. The history of his career can be found in the National Archives and the British Library houses letters sent from him to his mother. (The church log records a gift of altar linen from Mrs Robinson.) This information came from the Parish Magazine and the research was done by Elizabeth Thomas, Churchwarden of Ludchurch.
