On the evening of 11th December 2008 the redundant church of St Matthew’s, Saltney Ferry was destroyed by fire. This view is across Saltney Ferry Road towards the gateway to the church grounds. The church would have been seen between the two trees. Less than ten days after the fire the shell was demolished, the site made safe, and then it was secured. A sad end to a building that had served the community well for nearly one hundred years. St Matthew’s was built in 1911 to provide for the needs of the expanding railway community at Mold Junction. Due to a dwindling congregation the church became redundant in June 2000 and, coincidentally, the church hall was burnt down about five years ago.
