A short section of the old town wall survives between two later buildings in Forrest Road. The boys are from George Heriot's School nearby. Our city wa's, wi' yetts [gates] sae stout, That keepit midnight reivers [raiders] out, And saved our sires frae mony a bout 0' southern foe, To hain [enclose] us twa three staps [steps] about Are now laid low.
