The former Cheshire Lines Committee route between Manchester and Liverpool is now (2009) the main passenger route between the two cities. Glazebrook East Junction was once a significant point for regualting goods traffic, but now is mainly a simple block post, though with an extra role of turning back Manchester-Irlam short workings.
