View north-east across Scotlandwell towards the eastern end of Bishop Hill. The 2 gliders in the foreground are Olympias, which were already old when I took this picture in 1984. Mine, the red one on the left, was built in 1948. They were originally designed in the late 1930s, as a standard glider for the 1940 Olympics. That was the only time gliding was in the Olympics, but the whole thing was cancelled of course. The glider in the middle behind them is a Skylark 3, built by Slingsby's of Kirkbymoorside in the early 1960's. One half of the starboard wing has been removed - probably the previous evening when it was parked outside for the night.
