The Ocean hotel was built in 1937 and used by the fire service during World War Two. It was purchased by Butlins in 1953 who owned it until 1999 when it was sold onto the Grand Hotel Group who kept it open until January 2005. The redevelopment retained the shape of the former hotel with its Art Deco façade and was opened in 2009. http://www.grandocean.co.uk/
