A typical example of Edinburgh's numerous Victorian Gothic primary schools, Bonnington now stands boarded up, facing an uncertain future. Although many such schools have been declared 'unfit for purpose', they are solidly built and are as excellent testimony to the skills of the stonemasons who made them. [Note: In October 2012 Edinburgh City Council announced that the school will re-open in August 2013 as a new dedicated Gaelic primary school, Bun-sgoil Taobh na Pàirce (Parkside Primary School)]
