Standing on the up fast line of the East Coast Main Line to take a photograph on the same track as 125 mph trains heading towards King's Cross, it is necessary to have someone keeping a lookout. The up slow line is on the left and the down fast and down slow on the right. Some foot crossings on the ECML have red or green lights to indicate when a train is coming or when it is clear, but not this one though. A good look up and down the line is needed to see when it is safe to cross.
