The station originally opened in 1867 but has been rebuilt in the 1960's. It is one of 2 stations in Wakefield, the other being Wakefield Kirkgate. It is managed by GNER, which runs frequent express services north to Leeds and Bradford and south to Doncaster, and London King's Cross. Virgin Trains run to NE to Newcastle and south to Sheffield and Birmingham.
