Show homes by the entrance to St Michael's Place, a new housing development which includes the redevelopment of the former St. Michael's hospital > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1293920. The hospital has recently been closed and its clinics were replaced by community services. To the front of the former hospital building an area encompassing 3.1 hectares of green open space will be retained. St Michael's was built by the architect Donthorn in 1848/9 and originally was a Union workhouse for 'aged men, aged women and idiots'.
