Laid out by the General Cemetery Company and opened in 1836 to relieve overcrowding of churchyards. See also Image and http://www.friendsofkeyhillcemetery.co.uk/ Like the later Warstone Lane Cemetery nearby in Image it was financed and facilitated by sand quarrying. The Metro's Jewellery Quarter station adjoins the cemetery, just out of the gridsquare.
