A short green lane accessing farmland at Croft. A layby near here is useful for non National Trust members wishing to walk on the hills nearby. If you use the trust's car park you have to pay an admission charge to the castle grounds, even if only walking up to Croft Ambrey. There is very little parking available elsewhere thanks to narrow lanes and the diligent efforts of the National Trust in closing down a lot of the alternatives. The car park here allows you to walk on Bircher Common and the surrounding woodlands without considerable expense. Even without a car, you will be charged £5.50 if going to Croft Ambrey via the Castle car park.
