View north-west to the farm buildings from the public footpath. The local story (my thanks to Marlane Brenner) is that a battle was fought close by, possibly the Civil War. Brains were scattered as a result and that is how the farm got its name. Unfortunately, our search for archived evidence of this has drawn a blank.
