The railway network was used for the mobilisation of troops joining their battalions that fought in WW1. The Marriott’s Way is a long distance walk running from Norwich to Aylsham, passing many villages on its way. It is named after chief engineer William Marriott, who worked the Midland and Great Northern line for 41 years.
