Construction of Lowfields Bridge

When the old power station site was to be developed as the Lowfields business park, a new road access was needed off the Elland bypass. The railway embankment was in the way. The solution was to build a bridge around the railway line, within the embankment, then excavate for the road underneath it. At the time the bridge was built, it looked likely that Elland would get a new station at this location, but it was another 8 years before Calder Valley passenger services resumed, by which time there was not enough money for Elland as well as Brighouse to get a new station.
