A contrast in designs. 37057 is a diesel–electric locomotive, 85101 is an electric. The 37 has a 1,750bhp diesel engine that drives a generator that supplies electrical power to traction motors that drive the wheels. The 85 draws power from the overhead wires and uses it to power its traction motors to drive the wheels. 309 37s were built between 1960 and 1965 and 40 86s between 1961 and 1964. Of the 85s, only this locomotive remains. The 37s are gradually being depleted.
