The empty space you see behind Waterloo is the site where the Tinplate Works once stood, which closed around 1943. Amongst other items, the works made equipment for the aviation industry and supported various other enterprises in the area. Machen Forge Trail is a rural walk through villages and countryside, covering the old industrial area of Machen and Waterloo.
