The Baddeley's guide books of the early twentieth century were excellent (I still use them sometimes) and the author's comments sometimes caustic! This commemorative clock of 1907 stands at a road junction in Windermere and the stone inscription has, by the miracles of Irfanview, been made to float up to the top left hand corner to obscure the lamp standard.
