The properties were at one time owned by MAFF, who used the mansion as its headquarters in Wales and established the farm as an experimental husbandry centre. When the headquarters was relocated to Cardiff, the farm passed to BBSRC under its local research centre, IGER. IGER has recently been passed on to Aberystwyth University. The lane is also a public bridleway.
