The inscription, inscribed with lead letters, 90% of which have been removed or stolen, reads:- “In grateful memory of the men of St Austin’s congregation who gave their lives in the great war 1914-1919 R.I.P” The roll of honour is inscribed round the other three faces of the plinth. See Image
