Lake in Chalk Quarry on Herts/Bucks Border

There were a number of large quarries associated with the former Pitstone Cement Works, but this is the only one that is still open. When the works closed plans were published to convert this vast hole to land fill – but the objections, including contamination of the ground water, killed off that proposal, and quarrying has continues, but on a reduced scale.
