Looking west along Oil Mill Lane across Foul Ford, to the back of the elegant Corn Exchange, which has been converted into apartments. The Lane takes its name from the mill (no longer extant) which used to produce oil from flax seed. Foul Ford is so-called as it is one of the lowest-lying areas in Berwick, and before the advent of drains and sewers, the waste from higher streets collected here.
