The road name plate is unusual in having a hand, which is pointing left. Behind the hedge on the left is the site of a Congregational Church. The 1930s six-inch map shows the caption 'Hell Croft' behind these cottages, in Gothic lettering (for an antiquity). There is also a motte ('Castle (site of)') a little to the east - I shall have to go and have another look!
