Dove Hillock or Doo Hillock was a fine nursery that Don set up in Forfar. Born in Menmuir, he trained as a Gardener at Dupplin House and soon began exploring the Highlands for plant species. He published a book Herbarium Britannicum. He became Principal Gardener at the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh. He later returned to Forfar and his Nursery, where he died.
