The two linen warehouses at nos 19 and 21 Alfred Street were built in 1912 for the Walpole Brothers. The architect was James A Hanna. Like most of the street they were vacant and in a sorry state. Like most of the present street they have been rejuvenated and are now used as offices. These macabre figures adorn no 21. The more benign shield reads “PURE FLAX”.
