The well preserved gravestone of Captain Alexander McNary in Whitechurch Cemetery. Fabulously well preserved with a picture of a ship at anchor and a face the inscription reads as follows: Here lieth the body of Capt. Alexander McNary who departed this life 23rd Jan 1769 aged 52. Though Boreas' blasts and Neptune's waves have tost me too and fro but yet at length by God's Decree I harbour here below For though at anchor here I lie with many of our fleet One day we must set sail again our Saviour Christ to meet.
