Margaret Gilson's excellent "Buildings of Old Windsor" (Old Windsor, Old Windsor Parish Council, 1995 ISBN 0953691209) informs me that this building was officially opened by the Duke of Edinburgh in 1970, replacing an older structure erected in 1881.
