Built in 1861 as a school, see Victoria County History http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=101888 which tells us: "In 1895 the curriculum included dumb-bell exercises, cookery, and shoemaking. The Misses Biscoe provided free soup twice a week."
