Opened as the Ramada Renaissance in the late 1980s as part of the development that included building new offices for the council. In the process two older 19th century hotels converted into offices were demolished along with the truncation of Market Street which now ends at Prince Albert Street rather than the A259. Not a popular development and one that sits uneasily with its older neighbours.
