A long inscription, hard to read. "Erected to commemorate the coronation of King Edward VII and also .... the lessening of the gradient of Scatterbeck Hill by the Cumberland County Council / Crink, thank, think", but whether the road works were to commemorate the coronation or just happened to be done in the same period I don't know.
